I couldn't think of a good way to tie in all the assorted topics in this post, so here's another bullet-pointed list!

Hey, that's my text and images on this horrible ad-filled site! |
- If a trolling comment is the first step to Arriving as a Real Blogger, then surely this is the second step: I had one of my blog posts stolen by a content scraper! Funnily enough, they stole one of my 2012 sewing fails, but still. Many thanks to Steph at 3HoursPast for noticing and taking the time to let me know. Since Blogger doesn't have a lot by way of tools to prevent this kind of thing, I'm now considering switching over to WordPress; I'll let you know if that happens. In the meantime, I've gone and added a RSS Feed footer. So here's your PSA, fellow bloggers: CONSTANT VIGILANCE. Here's the extremely helpful post that I used to get that content scraping site shut down. Friends, has this ever happened to you? What did you do about it?
- I never shared some of my haul from birthday/Christmas happenings. Not that you really care, since you can't enjoy them, but have some pictures anyway:

Top left: Kat of Macskakat is a total sweetheart and sent me some hobbit-y souvenirs from New Zealand, along with a handmade pincushion. It was the best package ever! Top right and bottom: My very thoughtful brother, who I could've sworn didn't read my blog, surprised me with this amusing book, All Cats Have Asperger Syndrome. I'm pretty sure that's why I'm a cat person...they're just like me! |
- Lastly, I've done something jolly with my hair! I was growing it out for the first hobbit movie, but that's over now and it was really getting gross and split-endy and hard to manage, so I've gone and chopped it all off. I was originally thinking that I wanted a true pixie cut like Anne Hathaway or Emma Watson, but at the last minute I wasn't sure if I could pull it off so I chickened out. At least this way, it's still long enough to curl for the Jane Austen ball at the end of the month.

Mr. Cation and I went to the Huntington Library and Gardens to see their Civil War exhibits, and it was such a nice day! I mean, it's January and I'm wearing a sleeveless maxi dress and only a tiny bit cold! |
"All cats have asperger syndrome" LOL
ReplyDeleteI love your haircut. So cute and it really suits you :)
Thanks! And I've always identified with cats' need for space and petting only on their own terms...
DeleteCute haircut! I just chopped mine off too! I got it a little shorter than I've had it for a while this time and I'm having fun wearing it either as a slightly 20's bob or 60's flip-out. (My sister keeps calling me "Lady Edith".)
ReplyDeleteAnd don't be afraid to come to the light-side...err Wordpress, hehe. When I was researching my options before I started my blog, Wordpress seemed to be the best choice, and I've never had a complaint - they just keep improving it. =)
Ooh, I want to see yours! My first thought when I came out of the salon was the F. Scott Fitzgerald story "Bernice Bobs Her Hair."
DeleteI've used WordPress a little for the 1912 project blog, and it does seem pretty easy to use...I just need to set aside the time to transfer my blog over...
Hopefully, I will have some mockup fitting photos to share in the next couple weeks - then everyone can see my short hair. =) I always love how light my head feels to my neck right after I get mine chopped off.
DeleteIf you do switch over to Wordpress and have any questions, let me know. I've been "tech support" for a number of friends, hehe.
Firstly, let's talk about that haircut- super. rad. You look awesome!
ReplyDeleteSecondly, epic Christmas wins! That book is adorable!
I am loving having short hair again...it's so easy to wash! And I started laughing uncontrollably when I unwrapped the book!
DeleteLove the haircut (and you could totally pull off a true pixie if you ever wanted) - I am so jealous that you are going to a Jane Austin BALL - gahhhhhhhhhhhhhh, so so so jealous. But then, I did just cut up my period correct Jane Austin Dress so I wouldn't have anything to wear ;op
ReplyDeleteAwww, so sad that you had to cut up your dress! Well, supposedly Regency dresses are fairly easy to sew, as period costumes go, so you could always make another should the opportunity to go to a ball come your way!
DeleteLove your hair! So very cute.
ReplyDeleteSorry about the crappy scrapers. And dumb. And $&@!
Yeah, when I found out about the scraper, I wanted to just type a blog post entirely in wingdings font ;)
DeleteLove the hair!
ReplyDeleteI'm with Wordpress and have stuff stolen by content scrappers all the time, so it's not much better over there. However, I'm definitely going to be trying harder to get them shut down in the future.
Hmm, that's good to know, but at least Wordpress lets you track pingbacks, which Blogger doesn't really do.
DeleteLove the new haircut! And that cat book made me snort into my coffee. ;)
ReplyDeleteHehehe if I were drinking coffee when I opened it, I'm sure I would have too!
DeleteNot sure what was going on my the stuff stealing. I have never had that, although I had an infected page scare that I thinkk might have just been someone else's blog link. I got the page updates in my Blogger feed, although I could not actually access them on your blog. Hope that helps.
ReplyDeleteThanks for letting me know...I was actually trying to run a couple of tests so that might be what you saw in your feed, but I deleted them so that's probably why you couldn't see the actual page. Anyway, hopefully it will be a good long while before this happens again!
DeleteHow despicable of someone to nab your content!! RUDE.
ReplyDeleteAhem, after that I'll just say your book looks amazing and bravo on the brave hair chop. It's a success
Hahaha I wanted to call them something significantly more rude ;)
DeleteYour hair cut is very cute and flattering, I love it!
ReplyDeleteThanks!
DeleteLove your haircut, and I know you could do a lovely pixie if you still want one. Trolls on the internet, gah, they are everywhere! Sorry you are having to deal with that.
ReplyDeleteI might still get a pixie later in the year, depending on how I feel after my costuming events that involve having at least some curlable hair!
DeleteI love the new hair too! I almost didn't recognize you (same thing happene when I was a tween and my dad shaved his beard, total shock). And I really think my dear Walnut should review the book. You know, give his feline perspective on this...
ReplyDeleteI imagine a suddenly shaved dad might be significantly more shocking than some blogger you follow ;) The funny thing, though, is that Walnut isn't really a typical cat...he's more like a dog in a cat body.
Deletelooooove the hair. so chic and sophisticated!
ReplyDeleteNice hair cut! And is that a Downton Abbey reference - “I say, have you done something jolly with your hair?” (I don't watch the show - it was a Tom & Lorenzo post that turned me on the phrase, which I'm now trying to work into my life - mostly by asking my boyfriend that question, and giggling.)
ReplyDeleteYup, totally a DA reference...so glad someone got that! It's a pretty awesome line!
DeleteYou look really cute with short hair - all Elfin and that.
ReplyDeleteAnd the cat books - that's what birthdays are all about....
...I LOVE CATS!!
Aww you're so sweet! And yes, CATS.
DeleteAnd omg Jane Austen ball?! I LOVE JANE SUSTEN TOO!
ReplyDeleteI want to be Elizabeth Bennett. At some point when I know what I'm doing with this sewing lark, I'm going to try my hand at a Pride&Prej outfit. You in? (I think it'll be waaay in the future tho. And might have to have cats somehow incorporated...)
Oh, I wanted so badly to be Lizzie when I first read the book! Please do try a P&P outfit! Even better if it involves cats!
DeleteLol congrats on making it to the 'big time' of having content repurposed - I am glad you shut 'em down though!
ReplyDeleteThose are awesome, thoughtful gifts, and I LOVE your hair; you have such a pretty smile and now you can show it off better! ^_^
Hahaha that's the only way I can feel less hysterically angry about it -- respin it as a next step! And you are so kind to say that about my new look!
DeleteHow CUTE! Love the hair! You look amazing!
ReplyDeleteLove the haircut! And I bet you were at Huntington on Tuesday, since that's when the weather was marvelous here too... but now we're back to cold, wet and wind.
ReplyDeleteI know nothing of content scraping (love these little reminders of how weird the internet really is), but I wholeheartedly recommend Wordpress just cause I find its post-creator so much clearer and easier to use than Blogger's (I've guest-blogged on a Blogger site and the editor just drove me crazy). Wordpress's interface is also really well designed and much more attractive than Blogger's, in my opinion.
Also, your awesome cat book reminded me of a book my mom got my husband - the Oatmeal's "How to Tell If Your Cat Is Plotting to Kill You." Check it out if you've missed it!
We were actually there on Monday, but it was still just lovely! And oh my gosh, I love all of the Oatmeal's cat comics...they're just so spot on!
DeleteThe new haircut looks fantastic on you, love it! And I love the cat book - I must track it down so that my family and I (all cat lovers, one aspie) can laugh at it together).
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry I'm way behind, but I just LOVE your hair!
ReplyDeleteThank you for the PSA and very weird the stolen post was a fail. Very weird. Anyway wordpress is good (well I like it though really know how to use it).
ReplyDeleteI love your hair too BTW.
