Important Announcement

I don't usually talk about politics here at Cation Designs (okay, I never talk about politics), but seeing as how the first presidential debate is tonight, I thought I'd throw this out there:

Yes, that's right. Walnut is running for president (not really). I made him a little bow tie for his campaign poster photos, and with the help of a lot of treats and petting, Mr. Cation and I got him to make a little speech at the podium* about the changes he would like to make if elected president. Please note that his views are not necessarily my views (especially regarding deep sea fishing and corn subsidies). Oh, and he's also anti-plastic bags, but not because of any environmental concern; he just hates the sound of them being "fluffed."

In case you'd like to hear his speech** and see more footage of him on the campaign trail, check out this slideshow:

So if you're dissatisfied with the Republican and Democratic party candidates, please consider Walnut as your write-in candidate, representing the Feline Party.

This is the face of a cat you can trust.
He makes a pretty good Hello Kitty, too.
And in case you're wondering who his running mate is, it's his uncle Fenxi, the common shelter cat, whom I daresay looks even more elegant in his bowtie. I think that's a natural consequence of being a tuxedo cat, though.
But, this way,  Walnut will get both the long-haired cat vote and the short-haired cat vote.

*Actually, it's a potato storage bin that says "Taters" on the lid.
Somebody was grumpy about having to wear a tie...

**Walnut sounds really angry in this speech, but he was not in pain (unless you count emotional pain). See, every time I leave him for more than 48 hours, he gets really angry about an hour after I come back. After he's properly expressed his affection and happiness at my return, he will follow me around, nipping at my leg and "lecturing" me for several minutes. The harangue above was recorded after we got back from our two-week trip to the UK. So he's not being abused in any way; trust me, no cats were harmed in the making of his campaign video.

Walnut got his armpits scratched after the shoot, so that pretty much made up for having to wear a tie.

  7. My dog jumped on my lap and my cat ran out from under the bed and kept clawing at my computer as soon as the video started. I did not expect that reaction from either one of them:) You can count on two votes in Walnut's favor from my household.

  8. Fenxi is taking a tough stance against immigration though, people behind the scenes noticed him arguing with Walnut over his Siberian background.

  9. Just another Fat Cat politician, I say.

  10. I watched the video and my two cats kinda freaked out too. One ran to the window to see if there was a cat outside and the other eventually came over to the computer but she didn't quite figure it out. :)

  11. Felicity and I listened to Walnut's speech and gave his points due consideration, and unfortunately we can't give him the NZ cat endorsement. Felicity was so unimpressed at after staring intently at the computer for 30 seconds of speech she wandered off to check her cat bowl, and to make sure it didn't have any deep-sea fish or corn in it (Fis doesn't like fish or catfood with corn, nor is she a fan of the nip).

She does acknowledge that Walnut is the best-looking candidate by far though!

  12. Walnut is definitely the only presidential candidate I'm happy with. He's got my vote.

  13. He raises some fine points in his speech but I am not sure about the catnip for all. If it were catmint he may get my vote... Dapper bowtie!

  14. His speech was very inspiring, however it is a bad idea to remove fishing limits, we must make sure that there is a stable food supply and a healthy environment for our grandkittens. I would vote for Walnut if I could, but I'm not old enough to vote, and I'm not an American.

He does look dashing in that bow tie.

  16. Why yes, I AM unhappy with both Republican and Democratic candidates, and yes, I WILL be writing in my own candidate! (Seriously, I am.) If I didn't already have one in mind, I'd write in Walnut. He's definitely my second choice now!

  21. He definitely has to be one of the cutest kitties around! I just love his big adorable boof-face. He looks very smart in that tie - I'm amazed you could get it on him ;-P

  22. Oh man, there was a split second after I read your post title that I thought you were going to make a different kind of important announcement, and I thought, "Cindy's pregnant too?!? What is up with all the knocked up sewasaurus rexes?" ;)

Unfortunately, I cannot vote in the US election, but Walnut did capture my attention with his empassioned speech. Unlike the actual debate last night. Wooboy....I'm playing it in the background while I work, and there is little that is catching my attention so far.

  23. OMG AWESOME!!! Walnut would make a wicked awesome president! We'd vote for him but we're Canadian ;)

As a side note though, Starsky advises that Walnut ease up on his plastic ban, as he and several of his friends quite enjoy the satisfying crinkle of plastic licking. He appreciates Walnut's distaste for loud noises caused by others, however ;)
