One Thing I Like About Vintage Patterns

...is that the pattern pieces are, oftentimes, already cut out. Saves me one step in getting to the actual sewing part!

  1. I feel the same way! I once told an Etsy seller that I was so delighted to find the pattern already cut for me. She seemed surprised, thinking most people want their patterns brand new. I was happy to be able to cut into fabric right away!

  2. Oh...

    Dear me...

    Trace it?

  3. Nah. I wouldn't like them cut out. Am not the average figure, so it would be a deal breaker for me.

  4. @StephC I'm not really sure what the point of tracing it would be if it's already cut?

@Sassy T well, with vintage patterns there's only one size in the envelope, so it might as well be cut out.

  5. I'm a tracer... I'm not sad if they're cut out, but I'm definitely happiest when they're not. If everything's all uncut it's likely that all the pieces are there, undamaged (but then, I buy most of my "vintage" patterns from thrift stores, not reputable etsy sellers. ;) )

... but I make a lot of alterations, too...

  6. @Tanit-Isis I definitely prefer uncut and factory folds and everything, but I've been really fortunate to find that my cut patterns have been complete. And yeah, my vintage patterns are always from thrift stores (I can never bring myself to pay for shipping and all for patterns!), so I'm not too picky. I think once I get to more complicated stuff I will want to trace, but for now, things have been mostly okay (minus the forward shoulder thing!).

  8. I love that too! Except I just realised that you are talking about ones that are cut out because someone used them, and I am talking about the pre-50s ones that came already cut out.

And I am neurotic and trace all of my patterns on to pattern fabric and use that as my pattern, rather than ever using the paper.
