The cone of shame. The shaved belly of shame. Sigh. |
He just climbed into my lap and started hugging my thigh. Also, now you know what my pajamas look like. |
Thank you all so much for your kind words for Walnut! I'm busy with an end of the year commission, but I wanted to take a quick moment to tell you all how grateful I am that he has so many well-wishers all over the world. The surgery went smoothly and Walnut was grouchy and klutzy post-anesthesia, but quickly returned to his affectionate self; in fact, he's been more affectionate and snuggly than ever.
He'll get his stitches out in a week, but in the meantime he either has to wear a cone to stop him from licking the incision site, or we have to supervise him constantly. Maybe we're weak-willed cat parents, but it makes us so sad to see him crashing into everything and struggling to eat with the cone on, so I've been doing lots of cat watching instead of sewing, blogging, or grading papers. Well, there's been a little bit of sewing...here's a preview:
Aah, poor little Walnut. Good to know he's doing ok tho. I know exactly what you mean about being over anxious/weak willed when it comes to kitties - I was the same when Mini had to have her funnelhead - she kept walking backwards to try and get it off which was really funny but also heart breaking so there was lots of supervision in our household too. Get better soon Walnut! And happy new year to you all x
ReplyDeleteHugs to Walnut!!!
ReplyDeleteGlad Walnut is doing better! Pets are so adorable when they feel bad and want to snuggle.
ReplyDeleteAt the very end of my last dog's life, he had to visit the vet for a daily IV and at night they would send him home with a wrapped leg and cone. It was so sad - he was too short to really look down while wearing it so he would just freeze in place and stare at you. Needless to say, I couldn't make him wear the cone of shame and I made him a leg cover (which he couldn't take off) so he would forget about his leg.
Interesting sewing tease! That's too many legs for an octopus...
I'm so glad Walnut is doing well. Those cone thingies are such a nuisance, but I suppose if it stops him licking his stitches, then it's doing it's job. I hope his fur grows back pretty quickly, it seems so undignified for them to un-furry patches.
ReplyDeleteOh no! I hope Walnut has a speedy recovery!
ReplyDeleteHooray for Walnut! I totally just wanna bury my face in the fur around his neck and nuzzle. He's just. So. FUZZY. :-)
ReplyDeleteCan't wait for the sewing reveal....I thought Octopus too, but too many legs...Kraken?
Gah, I looked again! SQUID SQUID SQUID!!!
ReplyDeleteAwww, glad he's doing better. Poor guy!
ReplyDeleteInteresting critter you've got going on there...
So happy the fur baby is doing so well. I hate the cones as well, but they do serve the purpose. Don't blame you for taking time out to love him. Can't wait to see what you made. Regena in TN.
ReplyDeleteGlad poor Walnut came through his ordeal and is on the mend!
ReplyDeleteTentacles?
Poor walnut! Sending him lots of wishes for a speedy recovery and fast growing hair!
ReplyDeletePoor kitty, I missed what had happened to him but I'm glad he's ok. Just had a scare here with my little kitten but it looks like it is doing better now.
ReplyDeleteHope you are enjoying the holidays!
Awwwww sweet li'l Walnut! Continued good wishes & purrs coming his way....
ReplyDeleteHeal up soon, Walnut! >(^.^)<
ReplyDeletelow ash diet, walnut, that's they key to success and avoiding the cone...you may not like that diet cat food but you'll avoid unnecessary encounters with the vet in the future. very best wishes to the cats and the humans in your household, i really enjoy hearing about all the goings on...
ReplyDeleteOh good he's on the mend and being spoiled rotten by you both I hope. Poor little fluff.
ReplyDeleteThe sewing ... I reckon you're making one of those weird octopus costumes from BurdaStyle a while back. Wait a minute ...there might be too many tentacles.... :o) Happy new year BTW.

ReplyDeleteOh no, not the cones! Instead of cones I will wrap a tea towel around a rolled up newspaper and duct tape it closed around my dog's neck. Make sure it's thick enough that they can't reach to lick. No problem eating or seeing but does the trick nicely! You can see what I did here in a pic of my poor little baby coming out of anesthesia .. I don't think she is much bigger than your cat!

I'm so glad Walnut is okay, even though he's in coneland. The Orange Terror had a surgery a few years back but he totally refused to wear the cone (he actually could take it off, even when the vet tied it on!), so we just had to watch him constantly too. Ah, how the furry ones control us even when they're not at full power...
ReplyDeleteAw poor dear beautiful Walnut!! I'm so glad he's on the mend, but he does indeed inspire much sympathy in that cone :) I fully understand cat watching - I did it unceasingly when Starsky was so ill his last few days... we have to, it's what adoring cat parents do :) Please give him love & kisses for me! :)
ReplyDeleteAww poor Walnut, give him lots of cuddles from us! So glad the surgery went well and he is on the mend. Looking forward to him being back to his usual self rolling around all over your fabric! XxxX http://thesecondhandrose.blogspot.co.uk
ReplyDeleteso cute that W was hugging your thigh. But so sad to see him in the cone of shame. I remember how sad i felt when Bun Buns was wearing it. So glad that he's doing well now! :)
ReplyDeleteI'm so pleased to see Walnut came through ok! Sending him well wishes on your last post, a month late, seemed daft but Walnut is one of my favourite internet celebrities and it's great he came out ok. Him hugging your legs is so cute!
