Sometimes in our quest to make something true to a period we forget that the original wearers of such clothing used what was at hand and improvised themselves. If Scarlett O'Hara could make a dress from old drapes who are we to say we cannot?Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01866214028405710082noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-479880960748887964.post-87089524453211949672017-07-14T08:24:11.346-07:002017-07-14T08:24:11.346-07:00I made this dress from thrifted sheets that had de...I made this dress from thrifted sheets that had definitely been used and washed many times. I would recommend washing your IKEA sheets if they're 100% cotton as they will shrink, and it would be sad to put in all the time making a dress only to have it not fit after the first washing!Cation Designshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00785063344305810736noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-479880960748887964.post-36513781761727602802017-07-12T13:39:46.673-07:002017-07-12T13:39:46.673-07:00It's now a few years later I'm reading you...It's now a few years later I'm reading your post. I love the dress you made from the IKEA sheets! I bought a set of sheets from there yesterday with a floral pattern that I'm going to make a Regency day dress for to wear at the upcoming Jane Austen AGM in October in Huntington Beach, CA. It looks like the weight of the sheets worked out well. Did you wash the sheets first? Really!!!!!!! Honey, you are a woman after my own heart. I literally stumbled upon this blog this evening and I am feeling so good about it.

YOU GO, GIRL!

I am definitely going to have to bookmark, Stumble, FB, Google+ it . . . alla that stuff. You see, I recently purchased a sheet to make a skirt because I love the color. My girlfriend, who was with me, said she would recognize that it was a sheet, but chided me to "go ahead, make it, I want to see it." I was feeling some kind of way after what she said (but still have the fabric). I am going for it and making my skirt.

I now have new impetus to repurpose sheets from thrift stores like you are doing. My goal is to wear Regency, Edwardian, 1950's on a day-to-day basis and I am not concerned with "historical accuracy" as I am about simply being comfortable and ladylike.

Thank you for blogging and sharing with folk like me.Lyrichttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16489326001502318429noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-479880960748887964.post-63493038064022536472013-05-26T20:01:42.328-07:002013-05-26T20:01:42.328-07:00Oh, and I was going to say, for future projects, I...Oh, and I was going to say, for future projects, I highly recommend sheets from thrift stores (they don't usually sell anything that is stained or looks nasty, just clean, worn stuff). They have already been pre-washed and you can tell which fabrics will wear best. They are great for petticoats, chemises, and linings, etc...Garden Dreamshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08611017824772385524noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-479880960748887964.post-40102450097572478702013-05-26T19:57:22.435-07:002013-05-26T19:57:22.435-07:00ahh, love the print. you say it is from at least 1...ahh, love the print. you say it is from at least 10 years ago... much longer than that I'd say. I wanted to say - do you think the back could be helped if you shortened the shoulder "straps" and pleated the resulting excess in the sleeves in the back/shoulder? It seems to me it has some "give" in that area that perhaps is partly to blame for the low back, and pleated sleeves like that are perfectly accurate.Hana - Marmotahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03532515160608083460noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-479880960748887964.post-72429920152151372522013-03-18T08:02:39.063-07:002013-03-18T08:02:39.063-07:00Hi :) Just passing through....I think you do very...Hi :) Just passing through....I think you do very nice work <3 You know what...My mom bought me the sheets, the ones with the simple white back ground and pink, yellow, and blue flowers when I was little.
